Gracie Erlene Woodall Steenbergen, 89, of Russellville passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville. She was a Logan County native, born Feb. 25, 1932, the tenth child of Ard Woodall and Myrtle Jenkins Woodall.

She attended Gum Springs one-room school, in rural Logan County and then graduated from Chandlers High School, after having completed 12 years of school in 10 years. On Jan. 29, 1953, she married R. D. Steenbergen (1919-1993). They had six children: Debra Faye, Ronald Duane, Paul Douglas, James Anthony, Sharon Denise and Randall Delane. Those six children produced 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Erlene helped raise a step-son, Glen Neal Steenbergen.

Erlene began her working career at the Russellville Sewing Factory and continued at various other factories throughout her years (in between having children and moving). She, R. D. and six children lived in Hopkinsville, Houston, Glasgow and Russellville.

She has always been an enthusiastic seamstress, whether clothing her children, sewing for neighbors, quilting for family and neighbors, or just anything to do with sewing. She continued to sew and quilt (at age 89), as was her inheritance from her mother and grandmother.

Erlene and her sister, Eula Davis, spent many months and years researching the Woodall genealogy. She was also a member of Bald Knob Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband R.D. Steenbergen and son, Glen Steenbergen.

Funeral services for Erlene Steenbergen will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Benton Davenport and Rev. Byron Dumas officiating with burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
