John Edward ‘Johnny’ Higgins III, 76, of Russellville, passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020 at his home. He was a Logan County native, born Nov. 24, 1943 to the late John Edwards Higgins II and Eugenia Roberts Higgins. He was a graduate of Brescia College where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He was owner and operator of Higgins Grocery, was a Navy Veteran and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He served as president of Saint Vincent DePaul Society for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Ed Higgins, Joe Higgins and Raquel, David Higgins and Paul Higgins and Angela, all of Russellville; his daughters, Catherine Kennedy, Mary Miller, Sarah Cheaney and Chris, Teresa Thomas and Mike, Kristin Sydnor, and Jane Vysa and Bo, all of Russellville; 40 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass for John Edward ‘Johnny’ Higgins will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Ken Mikulcik officiating with burial to follow in the Berea Cemetery. A walk-through visitation held Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 4-7 p.m. at Summers and Son Funeral Home. Please observe CDC guidelines of six feet social distancing and wearing of face coverings.
