Joe E. Johnson, 87, of Adairville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 at his home. He was a Logan County, native born Nov. 14, 1932 to the late Luther Johnson and Easter Delk Johnson. He worked at Odom’s Tennessee Pride Sausage in Adairville for 30 years and was also a farmer. He believed in hard work and would often leave the cool environment at Odom’s to work the rest of the day in the extreme heat of the tobacco patch. He was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church and a Korean War Veteran. He was also a long time member of the Red River Fish and Game Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved animals and the outdoors. A loyal friend, he would help anyone in need.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Johnson, and his grandson, Brett Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Ann McIntosh Johnson; his son, Barry Johnson and wife Cathy of Adairville; his brothers, Coy Johnson and wife Mary Elizabeth of Russellville and Harold Johnson of Adairville; his granddaughter, Kelsey Johnson Gibbs and husband P.J. of Bowling Green; his great-grandchildren, Tripp and Ella Gibbs of Bowling Green; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Linda McIntosh of Olmstead and J.W. and Geraldine Wright of Adairville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Joe E. Johnson will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, at Summers and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Allen Woodard and Bro. Jimmy Chapman officiating with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home on Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. until the service hour. 

Memorial donations may be made to Forest Grove Baptist Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
